The look evident on the woman’s face shifts dramatically into that of one who is terrified in an instant. If she is able to hear noises coming from different areas of the house, then this is evidence that she can do so. And just as Joe is about to enter the kitchen, she is seen running out of view to a place of hiding that is just off the screen in the nick of time.

Joe Had No Idea At First
Joe pretends to be oblivious to everything that is going on around him by preparing a drink for himself before going back to bed. As soon as he is no longer in the way, the lady immediately emerges and promptly resumes her tactics of foraging. Then, after what appears to be an interminable amount of time, she eventually remounts the stool and makes her way into the crawl space that is located above the room.
