She felt him looking at her as she went about her job. For a flicker of a moment, a terrible thought crossed her mind, what if the unknown cop was some sort of a nasty trick courtesy of her unkind ex partner? Or was he dangerous is some way and her exhaustion had just mixed up her radar? No, she decided, she was not going to let her unnerving fears get the best of her.

Courtney couldn’t help try and have a little more small talk with the unknown customer, as she really did always try to make them feel as comfortable as possible, but actually his unwillingness to partake in any conversation was making her feel slightly uncomfortable. No matter how hard she tried, the officer would only give an awkward smile in response. She knew it was best if she just left him to it.
