40 Holiday Cards People Should Regret Ever Sending

Published on 12/20/2019

The tradition of sending out holiday cards never gets old, and many people look forward to doing it each year. Whether it is a compilation of last year’s vacation or a photo planned for, it is always an exciting part of the season. But let us not forget those people who wish to get a little “crazy” for the cards by doing some unusual stuff in adding pets and costumes. Either way, the anticipation for the cards in the mail lie await a mystery for you as you never know what you are going to get. There are some weird and funny holiday cards we have seen and have compiled a list to give you a laugh for the festive season…enjoy!

1. It’s a Family Affair

This family sent their Christmas card with their dog included as they didn’t want him to feel alone and left out for the season. While mom and dad seem incredibly proud of themselves for trying to empathize with their pooch, he or she seems rather puzzled as to what these weird humans are doing.

They were all in this together, and if one was affected by circumstance, so was everyone else? Amazing holiday spirit, right?

2. Meet the Gingerbread Family

They sure had a brilliant idea for their Christmas card, but the execution of the plan went downhill. Before this family began photoshopping their faces onto the cookies, the cookies themselves had to be made, which we must say seem less than ideal.

Meet The Gingerbread Family

Meet The Gingerbread Family

This Gingerbread family didn’t make the perfect cut! The cat and dog cookies must be the most bizarre and disturbing part of this scene. Maybe this idea would have been somewhat humorous if the family had actually stuck cutout pictures of their faces onto the cookies.

3. Family Gone Orange

Whoever in this family thought it was best to get a spray tan on the day of the photoshoot should be placed on the naughty list. This mom sticks out like a sore thumb against her paler family members, with her face shining like Rudolph’s red nose.

Instead of getting the perfect “sunkissed” feature, they turned out looking Mr. & Mrs. Oompa Loompa with adorable kids lol. This woman’s face is like a Tupperware that was used to store spaghetti Bolognese for too long.

4. Nature In A Photoshoot

Adding flair to your holiday cards is great, but when a leopard is attacking an antelope right before you…scary yet funny. While this is obviously a fake animal scene, it is no less disturbing, without a trace of any kind of Christmas cheer other than a random snowflake in the top right corner, barely daring to peek into this grizzly situation.

Also, we would want this family to know snow rarely if ever falls in the desert…hmm!

5. Double Take For One Price

This family knows how to economize, and we may learn a thing or two from them. What’s the best guess with this photo? The family was trying to get both Christmas and the Easter holiday cards out of the way in one go!

Double Take For One Price

And, who said advertising had to cost you a lot? Zoom in and check out the family business logo when you get the chance. The mother’s sultry expression and disturbingly black-colored bunny ears make us wonder if she was a fan of a certain gentleman’s magazine…

6. Photoshop Gone Awry

Where do we even begin with this one? As beautiful as this family’s combined voices surely are, their photoshop abilities leave much to be desired. Yes, photoshopping can be great, but when it comes alive in a picture, it is just too funny.

They even got the poor cats in on this one, whose mouths have been disturbingly widened to seem like they are singing, too. You can almost join in the “Oh Holy Night” performance did family did.

7. Another 2-for-1 Deal?

Lady Gaga knows how to make the most bizarre yet exciting fashion wear, and this family had their children wearing her bacon-themed outfit. While we get that Americans are crazy about bacon, the only time that it should appear on clothes is when a BLT is being messily eaten.

Another 2 For 1 Deal

Another 2 For 1 Deal

Luckily no lion or tigers were in close range or else…you know the rest! The family dogs were probably suffering from a confused kind of peckishness, however. After all, Christmas and Halloween are near.

8. Santa-Goat Stole the Show

This card must have been one of the most exciting cards of the century. The gaudy, over-the-top Christmas outfits, the blurry city lights background, and the adorable little goat with a Santa hat on the woman’s lap.

Santa Goat Stole The Show

Just envisage a goat wearing a Santa Claus hat? Yeah, we too have never seen anything this funny and adorable. But the most disturbing part of this scene must be the couple’s expressions, which are menacing, to say the least.

9. A Family Like No Other

Who said your card had to be all human? Well, this man decided he wanted to have his “friends and family” on the card. This seems to be an incredibly lonely man, whose perfectly symmetrical handlebar mustache is one sign that he is rather difficult to tolerate, even for his family.

A Family Like No Other

A Family Like No Other

So if you see a dog and a doll, yes a doll, stroll along…his style! He also seems to be at a public park, which must have been a terrifying sight for the other parkgoers.

10. Daring the Cat

Cats are not always fond of the camera, so when this cat became the highlight of a Christmas card, we knew he had given his dad the consent. Some would call this a real Christmas miracle.

Daring The Cat

Daring The Cat

Oh well, he must be everything this man wants in a family. Some people find a fantastic amount of companionship with cats, even if they are regarded as unfriendly by so many. Just getting the cat to focus on the camera must have been a true effort.

11. I Must Save Myself

While many kids love the idea of sitting in Santa’s lap at the mall, one little fellow didn’t see the amusement. In fact, he ran away in terror from the jolly-looking elder dressed as what is supposed to elicit the happiest emotions in people.

I Must Save Myself

I Must Save Myself

He instead runs for his life before he gets “captured” by an old man in a red & white suit with a weird beard. He has left his brothers behind to their fates as fast as his Cars-themed shoes will take him.

12. Bad Neighbors

There is a theory that cats and dogs don’t get along well, and this holiday card shows that. When times prove challenging to have your cat and dog sit steadily for a photo…nothing is wrong with letting their head float around.

Bad Neighbors

Then to top off the outfit? Well, we will leave that for now but a cool shade of green! Seriously though, what is it with people and 80s themed photoshoots? This was a scene that should have been abandoned decades ago.

13. The Nativity Scene From a Dog’s World

Now this one is borderline blasphemous. When a dog gets pampered and placed at the center of the Nativity Scene, we know we are in a dog’s world.

The Nativity Scene From A Dog's World

The Nativity Scene From A Dog’s World

This family had the perfect shot of the scene of Jesus’ birth only to get ruined by a four-legged fur baby. Some people love their dogs so much. While we get that people adore their dogs more than anything in the world, maybe you should avoid offending those that celebrate Christmas religiously.

14. These Babies Are Grown

The horror, the horror… Face swap is always a fun activity, but when it gets on the Christmas card, it leaves the opportunity for non-stop laughter, or terror.

These Babies Are Grown

These Babies Are Grown

If you ask us, this family needs to leave this feature for the social media world…a big no here lol! The dad seems miserable, and understandably so, given that he has once more been forced to participate in a disturbing experiment that is bound to go viral.

15. The Santa Spy

We always hear that Santa sees us while we sleep, but if this girl ever turns around, her name will be on the naughty list for being up past her bedtime. We cannot decide what the most terrifying part of this scene is, the old man instructing us to be quiet as he sneaks up on the little girl, or the little girl herself.

The Santa Spy

Or did Santa come a little too early? Either way, this girl can’t wait to get her precious

16. I’ll Be The Fun Sidekick

Some holiday cards always have a special moment where couples share their stories of engagement, baby bumps, or just married. Then you have the single sidekick who is open to joining the party anywhere without limitations.

I Will Be The Fun Sidekick

I Will Be The Fun Sidekick

After all, they will always need that extra pair of hands…so stay single and don’t get occupied. Poor Emily, the only contribution that she had to offer was the fact that her name completed the cringeworthy alliteration. Better luck next Christmas, lady!

17. The Cat Was Forced

A lot of holiday cards now have pets included, and when you check most of them…they didn’t legally sign up for it or give consent.

The Cat Was Forced

The Cat Was Forced

Like this cat who was not amused at his owner, making him wear that stupid costume and not having the perfect shoot. This picture is more incredible than most in this theme, given that the owner is looking at himself and his cat, as if he is his own hero…

18. Substitute Reeindeers

This one is just demeaning. A father decided to show everyone who was in charge by forcing his family to take the subservient roles of enchanted reindeer. Speaking of, it seems Santa’s reindeer were tired or sick this year and had to think fast and improvise, but at least a replacement Rudolph was on hand to light the way.

Substitute Reeindeers

Substitute Reeindeers

This family decided to do the job for him and, in the process, made a failed attempt at creating a great card. It’s a neat idea that presented terribly!

19. #1 on Santa’s Naughty List

We see this as a setup from one lady to get all the gifts from Santa, who is looking on with quiet disappointment. Little girls might look innocent, but many of them have all kinds of tricks up their sleeves, even if they might not understand their full gravity.

# 1 On Santa’s Naughty List

Telling your sibling to do something stupid (knowing they will) is nothing but a trap to get them on the wrong side of Santa’s giving. If we were Santa, we would let this naive youngster off the hook, wouldn’t you?

20. Rudolph Living The Life

This photo makes most of us envy the life of Rudolph. He decided to retire and get himself some new female friends. He seems to have gone down a treat on this particular Christmas, or at least his taxidermied head did.

Rudolph Living The Life

As if being shot while minding your own business in the forest wasn’t bad enough, your body will then be desecrated by creepy women. He seems to be enjoying the moment, even if he has been dead for some time.

21. When You Want That Christmas Gift

It is never easy as a child to play along when there is a messy situation at hand. But at the end of the day, it’s the hard work you have to put in for the prize.

When You Want That Christmas Gift

When You Want That Christmas Gift

These kids didn’t seem happy with their father’s version of the Heisman Pose. This is some seriously advanced photoshop, however, where the family has digitally plopped themselves into their own Christmas socks, showing that family was the real gift all along.

22. It’s the Doggy Kingdom

There are persons who love dogs and would do anything to make them happy. But when it comes to 33 dogs, how do you please all of them? With more money than most towns collectively possess, it seems. This is one opulent family, with a home that probably features dozens of rooms, one for each pooch.

It Is The Doggy Kingdom

Well, this family holiday card will leave us in suspense and wondering why we haven’t got our first dog when they have thirty-three.

23. Naughty Mrs. Claus

Oh Lord, please, take us away from this hellish scene. You might want to scroll past this one at high speed. A family holiday card should have limits if you ask us, but this mom didn’t pay much attention to that.

Naughty Mrs. Claus

Naughty Mrs. Claus

She has left us with a puzzling mystery as to why she wore a latex mini Santa Claus dress, especially with her kids around. Dad doesn’t seem too impressed, either. Maybe this is just her daily attire.

24. Gone Gansta For Christmas

Some people have a habit of taking things too far, especially those that are the furthest thing from gangster rappers. Christmas for this family is nothing that we have ever seen before. They have decided to go gangsta on us with the wrappers and their names too.

Gone Gansta For Christmas

Gone Gansta For Christmas

Wonder what hit song they put out for the holidays? “Christmas in da Hood,” perhaps? We have to give them special kudos for the hilariously lame puns, however.

25. Christmas in the Desert

Well, where do we start with this one? A Cactus for a Christmas tree, a dad in a mini short, a mommy cheerleader, and a child…not sure! When even a hint of snow lies many miles away, you need to improvise.

Christmas In The Desert

Christmas In The Desert

What year was this photograph taken, and how did we end up possessing such an obscure relic of cringe? This photo does look vintage, and they must be grown now? Wonder where they are now! Hopefully, mom finally parted ways with her highschool getup.

26. The Phone Family

By far, this may be the most real yet funniest holiday card photo we have seen. While parents will often scold their kids for being glued to their phones, these parents were self-aware enough to admit that they themselves have a problem.

The Phone Family

The Phone Family

They depicted the reality of what happens throughout the year, so no big deal to fake it for a few seconds to get the “perfect photo”. And this seems like quite an old photo by now, before the truly absorbing days of smartphones.

27. Gift Me For Christmas

What better gift could you ask for this Christmas than me, wrapped in a cute box with a beautiful bow? Imagine waking up excitedly for Christmas, running down to open your presents, only to find this bunch bursting out of the boxes?

Gift Me For Christmas

Gift Me For Christmas

This family decided to go awkward yet adorable under their Christmas tree packaged in boxes topped off with Santa hats. Nice try but silly! Santa can be so cruel, sometimes. This is a thousand times worse than a lump of coal…

28. The Shelf Elves

We know Santa’s elves are short and giggly, and this family Christmas card depicted that in a funny way. Then to top it off with some elf on the shelf?

The Shelf Elves

The Shelf Elves

Can’t play hide and seek with these elves at all…they are too big! This family seriously needs to raise its collective self-esteem, as not a single member felt like they were worthy of being Santa. Well, some families have a strong belief in equality, after all.

29. Weird Frat Boy Christmas

These boys wanted to show a little skin and probably appeal to the ladies, but too many questions are in sight after getting this card? We feel sorry for whoever received this miserable spread.

Weird Frat Boy Christmas

Planning to date one of them? You will want to ask a few questions first! Like why they thought that this was even the slightest bit appealing, or even appropriate. These are the kinds of gifts that will remain wrapped for all eternity.

30. A “Snaky” Christmas

This family scared the life out of Santa with just the look on his face. They wanted everyone they loved to be on their card, which includes reptiles, snakes, a dog, and Santa.

A "Snaky" Christmas

A “Snaky” Christmas

But he wasn’t the biggest fan of it, though. Given that Santa lives in the north pole, he is probably unaccustomed to reptiles, and this must have been a shocking experience for the formerly jolly saint. The poor man was shaking in his oversized boots!

31. The Eggnog Drain

This family learned it was a bad idea to snap this little guy right after he had his bottle of eggnog and cookies…he didn’t digest, maybe? His sad face shows the inevitability of the situation, as if despite his best efforts, he could not hold the vomit back.

The Eggnog Drain

The Eggnog Drain

Well, for a few years to come, he will look back at this with a funny frown. Hopefully, this young man will be unrecognizable as he grows older, but we somehow doubt it.

32. A Man’s Affair

This man is a genius and knows just how to have fun by himself. Why call anyone over when you can have your tree decorated, have a drink, party, and chat with your “group”.

A Man's Affair

A Man’s Affair

This card will surely get this man a lot of “fun friends” going forward, even if he seems to enjoy his own company a little too much. This scene must have taken hours to pose for, snap repeatedly, and then edit altogether.

33. Santa Got Influenced

Smartphones have become a part of everyone’s life, and when Santa stays with us for a while….he will start doing it too. Santa is going to be messaging Mrs. Santa to see what is for dinner, while the concerned family members are quickly updating their status.

Santa Got Influenced

Santa Got Influenced

Maybe he was researching about the North Pole while the others were having a group chat about how funny they looked. Either way, everyone looks incredibly silly. Hopefully, they don’t get new smartphones for Christmas.

34. This Grinch Made a Mess

A grown man in a full-body spandex suit cannot spell anything good and to top it off with a silly and weird facial expression. It’s a pity because the mom and daughters all look incredibly convincing as members of Whoville, while the ‘Grinch’ seems like a poor imitation.

This Grinch Made A Mess

This Grinch Made A Mess

At least he has managed to ruin Christmas with his scarily budget cosplay. One look at this photo and you may just burst into instant laughter and horror.

35. The Spandex Mistake

Grown men should not wear spandex because it doesn’t give the right picture! And when the family joins in with the scene, the ridiculousness just expands. At the center of this weird scene is a poor infant, suffering in silence.

The Spandex Mistake

The Spandex Mistake

If you have seen this film, you will see the complete hilarity of the family’s ‘parody’ of the whole thing. This holiday card is nothing close to perfect. At least their hearts were in the right place.

36. Great Photo Turned Ornaments

Taking a family photo for the holiday card is a happy moment, so you ought to smile. But what lies in the mid of the editors (most times the parents), no one knows. They always have some detailed plan, however.

Great Photo Turned Ornaments

Great Photo Turned Ornaments

We are sure they wouldn’t laugh so much if they knew what was up! We have seen some surreal birthday cards, where people have transformed themselves into some creepy objects, but bauble people must be up there with the strangest.

37. A Pack of Beer Freezed the Cold

What do you get when you drink a pack or few packs of beer before your Christmas card photo? You forget it is cold outside! These guys went to superhuman lengths creating what is a stunning and enormous snowman, rolling giant snowballs in nothing but shorts.

A Pack Of Beer Freezed The Cold

A Pack Of Beer Freezed The Cold

Those who live in warmer climates might not understand how much strength and endurance one needs to do what these fellas did. The giant snowman and snow lying around tell the weather from a distance.

38. Free Us From This Winter Wonderland

A great way to spice up your holiday card is to get creative and act well, and this family passed that. They had the right intention, but the execution just didn’t work out. Maybe if they had a better editor employed they could have made this look believable, rather than a Goosebumps Christmas special.

Free Us From This Winter Wonderland

Free Us From This Winter Wonderland

You can be certain that sticking your family inside a winter wonderland was a great idea gone wrong. If you thought that this was a pic from the 90s, then you need to read the date on the plaque on the bottom.

39. Get a Monkey She Said

How is it that people end up taking Christmas photos of themselves that are more terrifying than most horror films? Where did this lady get a monkey in the first place? And why did she put a dress on the innocent soul?

Get A Monkey She Said

Get A Monkey She Said

Wherever her idea came from, we wish she would put it back right there! This monkey certainly wishes that it was back in its natural habitat, far away from this cooky lady. Then again, it might be having the time of its life!

40. Santa Playing the Innocent Guy

Santa is always sneaking into people’s homes and stealing their cooking then leaves a gift to make up for his act. This time around, however, the real crime was committed by one of the elves, who seems to have gotten his coworkers into a serious workplace accident.

Santa Playing The Innocent Guy

Santa Playing The Innocent Guy

But this time around, somebody has to answer to a break-in call, and Santa is having none of it, so he blames the elf! He does seem incredibly naughty, though, so we cannot help but feel like the guilt lies with him.

41. Too Honest

We end this list with the most shocking Christmas card that we have seen to date. This couple is not trying to hide the struggle this year and this woman is no longer messing around. It seems that The Reeses have come to the point where only serious medication can help them.

Too Honest

Too Honest

If you haven’t decided what to gift us for Christmas, well now you know… While we doubt that Santa keeps any of the items that Mrs. Reese asked for, let’s hope that he brings something to help this family in desperate need.
