Cop Refusing To Move His Car From Blocking An Ambulance Learned The Lesson Of His Life

Major Disagreement

The Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) had their attentions alarmingly turned to the shocking incident that was unfolding. They were ordered to get a properly equipped team together for a speedy response, as quickly as possible. At the time, they didn’t care about anything but saving the lives of those involved. As the EMT team sped to the scene of the accident in their ambulance, they were joined by police cars blaring their sirens. These aggressive cops would shockingly be more interested in antagonizing the EMTs, rather than helping them resolve the life-threatening situation. To top it all off, one rookie officer blocked the ambulance in and refused to let it through. To save a life, the EMTs would need to get creative and find help in the least likely place imaginable.

They Were Blocked In

There was more traffic on the highway than any of the locals had ever seen before. On top of the traffic and everyone trying to get through, there were five police vehicles and an ambulance. Two EMTs were on the scene of the accident, and while one was trying to resuscitate an injured passenger, the other was trying endlessly to get the police cars out of the way. The already chaotic scene was growing all the more manic.

Requests Being Ignored

Troy, one of the EMTs, went over to the sergeant to instruct his men to remove their service vehicle so they could pass with the injured passenger. Rather than responding, the sergeant maintained his absolute impassable look as if no one was talking to him. After much pleading from the EMT, he sent over the request – but not before mumbling irritably to himself. However, after the instructions were given, the other officers decided they needed to ignore that dire request to the highest level.

Heightened Impatience

What shocked Troy the most was when the police refused to budge. Were they really going to keep obstructing the traffic and blocking the ambulance? The sergeant somehow didn’t like the deputy’s response, so he decided to approach him to see what was going on. Testing the doors, the cruiser was closed. This angered Troy further into more impatience and he shouted that they had to leave right away. At this point, the ambulance had long been ready to go.

A Possible Solution?

Troy’s patience was really being tested, and he was getting rather upset. Though this frantic attitude didn’t match the cool and collected training he had received, Troy never expected the police would be the ones to initiate this response. In reality, they were supposed to be helping to ease the tension unfolding in the area. The negative response of the officer was now becoming unbearable. They wanted to push the vehicle away or even smash a window. At the thought of that, Troy saw a tow truck operating across the road.

Troy looked over and saw that the driver of the truck was taking a break and drinking some water. Before thinking twice, Troy believed that requesting his help was the best solution and would provide the response they needed. The driver could probably help them. The sergeant glanced at Troy and knew exactly what he was thinking. They then headed over to the driver to seek some assistance. Without thinking twice, the tow truck driver agreed to help.

Checking His Drop Rate

They asked the driver what his drop rate was, and after he responded, the sergeant could not hide his wide grin. Troy glanced at the sergeant, and he too started to smile. Troy knew that there was no time to spare and dashed back to the ambulance to give his teammate the details of the tow truck driver. Before long, a pact had been made. What happened next had everyone looking on in complete amazement.

The Mission

Everyone looked on as the tow driver attached his clamps around the police cruiser so he could get the risky work done. The driver nimbly finished the job, hopped back into his truck, and started the engine. As the bystanders watched, the cruiser came rising off the ground. The truck driver turned and landed the cruiser on the grass that was lined along the road. By then, the cruiser driver was running towards the scene, screaming furiously. He rushed over to the driver, screaming at him in rage as to why he had done that.

The Car

Troy managed to hear what happened after because the sergeant walked away. The cruiser’s officer came complaining to the sergeant, turning red from the anger that was boiling inside. The officer was hysterical and headed over to the driver again, demanding that he drop his car, to which the tow driver, who was highly amused at this stage, nodded his head and happily went along with the performing officer’s demands. It was not going to be such a straightforward resolution, it seemed.

Costing Hundreds

The enraged officer then wanted to know how much this stunt would cost, which the smug driver revealed to be one hundred dollars. The officer threw his hands in the air in exasperation and marched back to the sergeant, wishing to loudly know how his superior could allow police to be disrespected like this. To answer his agitated demands, the sergeant simply said that a car could be legally towed if it blocked an emergency vehicle. This did little to persuade the rookie officer, who was solely focused on getting his cruiser back.

He Had To Pay

The deputy tried his best to get the driver to drop his car. After pleading endlessly, the officer finally agreed to pay forty dollars, an offer which the driver flatly rejected. The driver bravely maintained that one hundred dollars was the drop cost. Once again, the officer tried bargaining with fifty dollars, to which the cab driver replied by saying that he would soon need to move the cruiser even further and the officer would need to pay more than just one hundred dollars. Realizing he would not get the victory, the officer had to pull his wallet and pay it forward.

A Lesson Well Taught

The officer embarrassedly handed over his owing balance to the satisfied (and highly entertained) driver, so that he could finally get back to his shamefully delayed police business. His wallet felt a lot lighter as he watched his cruiser gently touch the pavement. The hook was removed, and the deputy crawled back into the cruiser in a flash, then speeding off as if his life depended on it. Once the incensed officer left, the sergeant burst into raucous laughter, as did many others who were around. This was indeed a lesson the rookie had to learn the hard way.

Acting As The Boss

The offended deputy was practically new to the job and was only a few weeks into the new position. But already, he was behaving like an immature rookie who possessed a cocky and “over-the-top” attitude. Ironically, he acted as if he was a member of the brass and was the only one slated to give instructions, refusing to listen to anyone. Apparently, he was exploiting his little title as though he ran the place and should be responsible for giving all the orders. But there was yet another funny secret to be revealed.

The Non-existent Law

The terms on which the cab driver had moved the car were apparently wrong, and there was absolutely no rule in the books that stated the car could be removed in such a manner. There was no need to have paid that money to the cab driver. Regardless of the cost, this was an invaluable lesson that this officer had learned, and hopefully, he would also reach out to his superiors for a little guidance. After all, police officers are not exempt from the law. So, with everything that happened, where was Troy in the midst of all this?

Working As A Team

Troy and his companion could freely move out of the area to take the injured passenger to the hospital for proper treatment. After they completed that mission and were now relaxing after a hard day, they could finally appreciate the previous hilarious moment. You can be sure that they enjoyed a great, long laugh. It sure was a stress-reliever for the EMT team, and it was a clear indication that everyone involved in an accident’s response must work as a team. Even those you do not expect would help could be on your side and be the ones that come to your aid.

A Thread

Troy was really amazed by everything that unfolded at the scene of the accident. He was prompted to share the crazy story on Reddit on a thread called “Pretty Revenge.” Again, the deputy was in the spotlight, and everyone who came across the thread was really amused and loved it. The post has since gone viral, and a lot of the platform’s users could not really believe the rookie police officer’s attitude. Surprisingly, Troy wasn’t the only one to have such an experience as many others started to share similar stories.

The Stories

A user who goes by the name “Hammerraptor” shared how he once worked for the local fire department as an EMT/FF. It was at the scene of one car accident that they parked the fire truck and ambulance in close range. One rookie officer came along and had a major problem with where the ambulance was parked. Without any instructions, he took it upon himself to move the ambulance about 150-200 feet away from the scene. Can you imagine being an EMT and having your most essential resource moved minutes away from a dire accident?

A Firefighter-Cop Story

The chief, a 55-year-old female, started an altercation with the junior cop on the scene. It was a complete mess, and she had to be pulled away from the bold officer. There was endless screaming and shouting, and the chief of police had to come to the scene within a few minutes. Luckily, the victim was fine, so at least no one suffered on account of a few emergency personnel members squabbling. The police department apparently decided to get dinner for the fire department that night, and no one was punished for their actions.

While Troy’s story was still fresh on everyone’s minds, others too came forward with theirs. Other people recalled wars between firefighters and cops. One user typed out his story, one that took place while he was working as a volunteer for the fire department. He noted that his training taught him how to operate all of the tools and equipment of the department. As they were dispatched one night, he said he was in charge of the second engine as the first was already on an emergency call.

On Top Of Their Voices

There were three vehicles involved in a crash at the interstate close to them. Although the accident took up the left-most lane out of the four main ones, the protocol is to block the closest lane to any accident, to protect the injured and the emergency staff. While they were still attending to the victims, a trooper came over indicating they should move the engine from the second lane to have three lanes in operation. The Redditor indicated to the police that it was a protective reinforcement for the workers until they were finished.

The argument between the volunteer and the police officer went on for a few minutes until the Redditor wrote that he walked away and returned to the incident scene. Before long, the trooper was back at it again at top of his voice, demanding that the engine be moved. The user said he made it clear that the tools and equipment laid out were for aiding the injured and protecting staff. The officer then walked over to the medical team to ask who was in charge, and they pointed back at the volunteer.

Problem To Be Escalated

After being told the same guy he was nagging was in charge, he came over with a subtle voice, saying the issue would be addressed. As time went by, the trooper returned with a rescue chief who turned out to be my friend. After explaining the situation to him, he smiled and said he would get it sorted out. Thanks to that rescue chief, the trooper never returned to me for the rest of the time we were on the scene. Emergency teams are not only faced with difficult situations but also unbearable people.

It’s More Common Than We Think

Ambulance and emergency medical staff are most times right in their judgment, and since they work to save lives, you have to agree with us. However, life is not all smooth sailing with them at all times as daily; they receive threatening notes and letters because they don’t operate to please certain people. Sadly, the West Midlands ambulance service have reported that daily, at least one of their team members receives a threat or faces some level of harassment while on the job.

Lives Are Saved

If the emergency unit is blocking your driveway, it is best to ask them if they could allow you to pass humbly. At times, they can compromise to give you some ease of access. However, it may not always be the case as sometimes the emergency on hand is critical and is a matter of life or death. After all, a life is being saved, so the most humane thing one can do is be patient and hope for the best as the team does what they know best.
